China AI Standards Near 200 as 6G Development Accelerates

China AI standards near 200 as Beijing advances AI ethics, 6G technology and new applications during 2026-2030.

China has formulated nearly 200 China AI standards to guide the sector's development, officials said Wednesday. The standards aim to support orderly growth across China's artificial intelligence industry.

Xin Guobin, vice minister at the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), made the comments. He spoke at a press conference held by the State Council Information Office.

Xin said AI has become integrated across China's industrial chain. This includes research, development, design, production, manufacturing and quality inspection. It also covers operations and maintenance across different industries.

The ministry is also organizing work on AI ethics in multiple cities. These efforts include ethics reviews and related service practices.

Officials also outlined plans for advancing 6G technology during China's 15th Five-Year Plan. The plan covers the period from 2026 to 2030.

Liu Yulin, director of the MIIT's information and communications development department, announced the plans. He said China will accelerate work on core 6G technologies during the period.

China will continue 6G technology trials and standards development. The efforts will support the industry's development and help build a wider 6G ecosystem.

The government also plans to prepare the technology for commercial deployment. It will focus on developing practical applications for new technologies and products.

Manufacturing will receive demonstration programmes for large-scale technology applications. China will also develop major application scenarios involving 5G, AI, robotics and the industrial internet.

The latest plans place China AI standards alongside broader technology development. They connect standards, ethics, industrial applications and future communications technologies.

Officials said these measures will support the development and wider use of emerging technologies. The announcements form part of China's technology plans for the 2026-2030 period.
