The modem is expected to support 5G NR-NTN technology, which stands for New Radio Non-Terrestrial Networks. This system treats satellites like distant cellular towers instead of separate communication channels.

With this approach, users may no longer need to point devices toward the sky. The phone could automatically connect to satellite networks when cellular service disappears. Reports suggest the connection may work even while the device remains inside pockets or buildings. This improvement could make emergency communication faster and more practical.

Apple Company is also expected to continue offering satellite-emergency-services without subscription fees. The company originally promoted Emergency SOS as free for two years only. Despite that announcement, Apple still has not started charging users for the feature. Introducing emergency fees could damage customer trust during critical situations.
