World Humanoid Robot Games Expand in Beijing
The World Humanoid Robot Games will return to Beijing from August 22 to August 26. Organizers expect a much larger field than last year's inaugural competition. The event has attracted 666 teams and 2,056 robots from 16 countries.
Jiang Guangzhi, director of Beijing's Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology, announced the figures. The participating countries include the United States, Germany and Japan. Brazil will also send a national team with five RoboCup squads.
China will provide 641 teams and 1,975 robots for the competition. These entries represent 157 companies and 200 universities and research institutes. The domestic lineup includes 27 leading Chinese universities and many major robotics companies.
The World Humanoid Robot Games will feature more than 30 events this year. New competitions include long jump, weightlifting, tug-of-war and table tennis. These events will test motion control, structural design and core hardware.
The World Humanoid Robot Games will also include practical scenario-based competitions. Robots will perform tasks in factories, hotels, homes and logistics centres. Challenges include assembly, housekeeping, emergency response and library book sorting.
Organizers say the contests could help develop future technical standards. Jiang said competition rules may help transfer robotics advances into industrial applications.
The World Humanoid Robot Games aim to test robots beyond traditional athletic competitions. Practical tasks will measure how machines perform in complex working environments.
The first World Humanoid Robot Games took place in August 2025. That event attracted 280 teams and just over 500 humanoid robots. It included participants from 16 countries.
