Puddin AI is a new system developed to identify whether academic papers were written by humans or generated by artificial intelligence. The platform was created by a Japanese startup and is gaining attention from universities and educational institutions.
The system was developed by Osaka-based startup Valar Intelligence. Users must write and submit their papers directly through the Puddin AI platform. This approach allows the system to monitor the entire writing process instead of only reviewing the final document.
How Puddin AI Analyzes Writing
Puddin AI records several writing activities while a user works on a paper. The system tracks when writing begins, typing speed, and the sequence of revisions.
After completion, users can activate an identification feature. The platform then evaluates the document using nearly 200 indicators.
These indicators include:
- Common spelling mistakes
- Writing pauses
- Revision patterns
- Estimated writing time
- Document creation history
The system measures the likelihood that a human produced the content.
Universities Explore Adoption
Interest in Puddin AI continues to grow among academic institutions. Kyushu University has been testing the platform in classroom settings.
According to the developer, several dozen universities are also considering adoption. The company aims to expand the use of Puddin AI across educational and research environments.

Puddin AI places analyzed content into three categories:
- AI
- AI-supported
- Human
The platform supports Japanese, English, and four additional languages. It can evaluate university assignments, academic papers, and corporate documents.
Copying and pasting AI-generated text usually reduces writing time significantly. This helps Puddin AI identify content that may not have been written by a human.
